The Ekolet composts toilet and food waste and biologically pre-cleans liquids. It also allows for the use of a hand shower. There is sufficient capacity for use by four people two months/Year.The toilet is made up of a pedestal in the washroom itself plus a rotating, four-compartment composting tank beneath the floor. The wind/electrically assisted air circulation through the ventilation pipe keeps the toilet completely odour-free. No additives are needed, and no sewerage pipes or water for flushing.

When one compartment in the composting tank is full, a thin layer of soil or compost is sprinkled over the top, and a new compartment rotated into position. The compost is removed at intervals of about a year. The compost is odourless and ready to be used as a fertilizer. The biologically pre-cleansed liquid can be piped along with household washing water.

The Ekolet is simple and reliable in construction. It contains no parts which could break or become blocked and prevent use of the toilet. The material is polythene plastic reinforced by steel and can be recycled. The package has all parts needed for a normal installation.

General Issues Regarding to the Assembly of the Toilet
Underneath the toilet-room one must have a space for the composting tank of at least a 140 cm x 140 cm square with a height of 65 cm.

The composter is installed on even, frost-resistant, well-supporting surface. The maximum total weight of the composter is 400 kg. The weight under normal usage is 200–300 kg. All parts of the composter can be carried in through a 60 cm wide door.

The composter has an electric fan (12V/4W), that fans air into the 100 mm ventilation pipe attached to the lid of the composter at a rate of 20 cubic meters per hour. The ventilation pipe must always be directed upwards in such a manner that the ventilation will function naturally also during electric shortages. It is advisable to insulate the ventilation pipe. The fan can be powered by an electric solar panel.

All pre-cleansed liquids are extracted from the composter via an exhaust hose (ø 19 mm) and can be mixed with the other household waste water (grey water).

One side of the composter must be accessible for emptying of the composter. A full compartment provides you with 50 litres of composted soil.

One 230 V 50/60 Hz electric outlet located indoors near the composter is needed for the fan and electric heater (optional).

The ventilation of the toilet is effected via the toilet seat and thus there should not be another ventilation opening in the upper part of the room.

The assembly of the EKOLET toilet is easy and one doesn’t need to have any special skills in electric installations or sewage assembly.

The diameter of the composter is 1340 mm. The centre of sewage pipe (ø 200 mm) is 370 mm from the centre of the composter, 230 mm from the rear edge of the seat, and 295 mm from the front edge of the seat.
